Bhubaneswar, November 10,  2023 : Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Odisha has emerged as the “Land of Opportunities.” The state has undertaken a series of proactive initiatives to foster economic growth and development, making it an attractive destination for businesses and entrepreneurs. In view of this, Government of Odisha along with TATA Steel is working towards furthersolidifying the state’s reputation as a hub for Opportunities in Downstream & Ancillary Projects. In this regard exploratory meetings and discussions are being held to highlight the potential of the steel industry and encourage entrepreneurs to invest given the ease of doing businesses in the state.

The session was presided over by Shri Hemant Sharma, IAS, Principal Secretary of the Industries Department, Government of Odisha; Shri Bhupendra Singh Poonia, IAS, Managing Director, IDCO & IPICOL;Shri Rajeev KumarVice President Tata Steel, Kalinga Nagar Project,Shri Praveen Srivastava COMS Branded Products & Retail, Tata SteelandShri Prabhat Kumar Vice President (Marketing & Sales), Tata Steel,Shri Kalyan Mohanty,Executive Director, IPICOL making it an event of great significance.

Odisha is considered to be a Mineral Hub of the country with 33% of Iron Ore reserves, which makes it an ideal location for setting up steel industries. The state is the largest producer of Steel, stainless steel, Alumina & Aluminium in the country and has more than 20% of steelmaking capacity of the country.

Shri Hemant Sharma, IAS Principal Secretary, Industries Department, Government of Odisha, highlighted the Industrial Ecosystem of the state, focusing on the newer developments and umpteen opportunities for ancillary and downstream industries in the state. He also underscored the growth story of TATA Steelover the last 3 decades underlining the ecosystem in which TATA Steel operates, revolutionary growth in the steel sector and the opportunity in various products of downstream and ancillary projects.

Shri Bhupendra Singh Poonia, IAS, Managing Director, IDCO & IPICOL shared valuable insights into the thriving industrial ecosystem, laying the foundation for collaborative growth. He also provided a comprehensive overview of the opportunities within the state and the unwavering commitment to fostering economic growth and development in the Steel sector.

The member committee echoed the same sentiment spotlighting the growth potential of Odisha as a business, innovation and investment hub. The event served as a clarion call to the budding entrepreneurs in Odisha to align their ambitions with the dynamic opportunities offered by Government of Odisha and Tata Steel.

The event concluded with Business-to-Government (B2G) meetings, providing a unique platform for entrepreneurs to engage with existing vendors of Tata Steel projects from various states. These meetings hold the promise of unlocking new business horizons for entrepreneurs keen to diversify or expand their roles as Ancillary and Downstream vendors for Tata Steel, Odisha.

The state’s commitment to progress has not only attracted businesses but also nurtured the potential of existing and future entrepreneurs.
