New Delhi, December 29,  2023 :  Power generation is expected to reach 481 billion units in the first quarter of the coming financial year, up 10% from the corresponding period this year, considering industrial growth, climatic conditions, and domestic consumption. This also includes an anticipated demand for the general elections likely to be held between April and May, sources said.

Of the estimated generation, 346 billion units are expected from coal-based units, as per an assessment done by the power ministry. Domestic coal-based plants are likely to generate 328 billion units in the quarter.

Domestic coal requirement for the estimated power is expected to be around 216 million tonnes in the period while blending of imported coal is likely at 13 million tonnes equivalent. Total requirement is 11% higher than Q1 of this fiscal, one of the sources said.

Rake requirement for the total coal movement, including import, is likely at 488 per day in April-June compared with 463 rakes per day required currently. According to the reports published in economictimes.indiatimes.com .
